The Technical Program Manager at SET Environmental provides technical onsite leadership, operational support, and compliance oversight for environmental service waste management programs and personnel across an assigned region. The Technical Program Manager oversees day-to-day environmental operations at client facilities or dedicated company sites. This role ensures total compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations. The manager leads a team of waste coordinators and maintains high safety standards.This role partners with field teams, customers, sales, operations, and regulatory stakeholders to deliver safe, compliant, cost-effective on-site waste management services, including hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, regulated waste handling, recycling programs, technical guidance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
A Technical Program Manager at SET Environmental is responsible to:
- Lead technical support for environmental on-site waste management services across the assigned region, ensuring consistent execution of customer programs and company standards
- Recruit, hire, train and manage on-site waste coordinators
- Provide subject matter expertise in hazardous waste, non-hazardous waste, universal waste, regulated materials, recycling, waste characterization and profiling, manifesting, labeling, storage, transportation, disposal, and related compliance requirements
- Support field teams with technical problem-solving, waste characterization, regulatory interpretation, service planning, and escalation of complex customer or operational issues
- Partner with operations and sales leadership to scope services, evaluate customer needs, develop practical solutions, and support profitable growth of on-site service programs
- Oversee program performance, including safety, compliance, quality, productivity, cost control, and customer satisfaction metrics
- Conduct site assessments, compliance reviews, operational audits, and corrective action follow-up to reduce risk and improve performance
- Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures, technical guidance documents, training materials, and best-practice tools for regional teams
- Ensure work is performed in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, company policies, customer requirements, and industry best practices
- Collaborate with environmental health and safety, transportation, disposal facilities, customer service, procurement, and finance teams to resolve service, compliance, and cost issues
- Review and support waste approvals, profiles, permits, documentation, reports, and other technical submissions as needed
- Identify opportunities to improve service delivery, reduce customer costs, increase waste diversion, strengthen compliance, and standardize regional processes
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, chemistry, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, business, or a related technical field; equivalent experience may be considered
- Minimum of 3-8 years of experience in environmental services, hazardous waste management, industrial services, remediation, regulated waste, or a related field
- Demonstrated knowledge of RCRA, DOT hazardous materials requirements, OSHA standards, HAZCOM, waste profiling, manifesting, and environmental compliance practices
- Experience supporting multi-site operations, field service teams, customer programs, or regional technical service delivery
- Strong ability to interpret regulations, solve technical problems, assess risk, and communicate practical recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and environmental, transportation, or waste tracking systems
- Ability to travel within the assigned region to support customer sites, field operations, training, audits, and business needs
- Obtain and keep current all certifications/licenses required (i.e., 40 Hour HAZWOPER Training, medical certification including respirator use)
- DOT hazardous materials training, RCRA training, OSHA safety training, or related environmental compliance certifications, preferred
- Experience with on-site waste management programs, total waste management, environmental staffing, emergency response support, or industrial customer operations, preferred
- Experience leading technical training, process improvement projects, compliance audits, or regional standardization initiatives, preferred
- Professional certification such as CHMM, CSP, REM, PMP, or similar credential, preferred
