Job summary

Standard Nuclear is seeking a detail-oriented Buyer to source technical components, equipment, and services for engineering, manufacturing, and facility operations at our Oak Ridge, TN site.

You will create and manage purchase orders, track deliveries, resolve supplier issues, and work with engineering, quality, and logistics teams to optimize cost, lead times, and supplier performance in a fast-paced nuclear environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• 2-5 years of purchasing/procurement/supply chain experience.
• Experience purchasing technical components, equipment, or engineering services preferred.
• Ability to read and understand technical specifications, drawings, BOMs, and supplier documentation.
• Strong organizational, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with ERP, purchasing, inventory, or supply chain systems preferred.
• Experience in manufacturing, nuclear, aerospace, defense, energy, or related technical environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Source components, equipment, materials, and services based on requirements.
• Review specs, drawings, BOMs, and requests to understand sourcing needs.
• Identify suppliers meeting technical and commercial criteria; obtain quotes and lead times.
• Create, issue, and manage purchase orders through delivery and closeout.
• Track orders, supplier commitments, and delivery dates; resolve delays or issues.
• Maintain purchasing records and supplier data in company systems.
• Coordinate with internal teams to resolve discrepancies and support sourcing decisions.
• Support cost and lead-time improvements across projects and operations.
