Our client is seeking a Technical Pre-Sales Engineer to help semiconductor customers improve production efficiency through equipment management and factory automation software.
In this customer-facing role, you will uncover customer needs, present technical solutions, and work with global engineering teams to define software enhancements and custom development projects. Solutions may involve existing products, modifications to current capabilities, or entirely new software built around a customer’s production requirements.
The ideal candidate combines technical credibility with strong communication and relationship-building skills. This opportunity is well suited to an application engineer with commercial instincts or a technical sales professional with substantial software knowledge. Dedicated development teams handle core implementation, while field service teams own post-sales troubleshooting and support.
What YOU get to DO at this growing company
- Build trusted customer relationships and develop a clear understanding of production environments, operational challenges, and business objectives.
- Lead discovery discussions to uncover both stated requirements and needs customers may not have fully defined.
- Deliver technical presentations and demonstrations that connect software capabilities to customer priorities.
- Determine whether existing functionality, product enhancements, or custom software development will best address customer requirements.
- Translate customer needs into clear use cases, technical requirements, and proposed solution scopes.
- Collaborate with global R&D and software development teams to assess feasibility, evaluate implementation approaches, and communicate technical tradeoffs.
- Participate in discussions involving software architecture, integration, interfaces, and security.
- Create small scripts or supporting examples when needed to evaluate or demonstrate a solution.
- Help coordinate custom software initiatives by clarifying priorities, dependencies, timelines, and risks.
- Partner with sales, account teams, application engineers, and field service to support product adoption and a clear handoff for implementation and support.
What you NEED to SUCCEED in this challenging role
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.
- Familiarity with automated test equipment (ATE) and semiconductor test environments.
- Practical software development experience and the ability to discuss technical solutions confidently with customers and engineering teams.

- Experience working in a Linux environment, including shell commands and scripting.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
- Ability to ask thoughtful questions, identify customer needs, and translate them into actionable technical requirements.
- Strong organization and follow-through, including the ability to coordinate activities across global teams.
- Ability to learn new technologies and software products quickly.
- Willingness to travel to customer locations, including the Bay Area, Southern California, Phoenix, and Austin.
Additional experience that will help you stand out:
