Job summary

Johnson & Johnson's MedTech division is seeking a Technical Operations Engineering Co-Op in San Lorenzo, PR. The internship runs January to December 2027, 40 hours per week, with a mentor guiding hands-on engineering and process-improvement work.

You will support continuous improvement projects, testing and documentation, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration to drive efficiency, quality, and costs down in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Completion of at least two years of undergraduate studies is required.
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• Fluent in English and Spanish with strong communication skills.
• Prior internship, co-op, or project experience is preferred.
• Leadership through student organizations or community involvement is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support continuous improvement initiatives and business projects within the assigned department.
• Assist with project execution using FPX, Lean, and Six Sigma methodologies.
• Participate in testing, validation, and documentation activities for products and processes.
• Maintain technical documentation, reports, and project records.

• Develop concepts and approaches for new products, processes, or testing methods.

Purpose

The Co-Op Student will support continuous improvement initiatives and business projects within the assigned department. Working under the guidance of a mentor, this role provides hands-on experience in engineering processes, project management, process optimization, and operational excellence while contributing to projects that improve efficiency, reduce costs, shorten cycle times, and enhance overall quality.

You will be responsible for

• Supporting projects focused on improving process efficiency, productivity, quality, and cost reduction.
• Assisting with project execution using project management and continuous improvement methodologies such as FPX, Lean, and Six Sigma.
• Participating in testing, validation, and documentation activities related to products, processes, equipment, and raw materials.
• Maintaining technical and operational documentation, including specifications, reports, and project records.
• Analyzing data and preparing reports to communicate project progress and results.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify improvement opportunities and implement solutions.
• Assisting in the development of concepts, designs, and approaches for new products, processes, or testing methods.
• Supporting compliance with company policies, environmental, safety, and occupational health requirements.
• Communicating project updates, risks, opportunities, and business-related issues to leadership when appropriate.
• Performing additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications / Requirements

• Completion of at least two years of undergraduate studies at an accredited university is required.
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related Engineering field .
• Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and remain in good academic standing.
• Previous internship, co-op, undergraduate research, or relevant project experience is preferred.
• Leadership experience through student organizations, extracurricular activities, or community involvement is a plus.
• Fluent in both English and Spanish , with strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word .
• Experience with Minitab, Visio, Power BI, or other analytical tools is preferred.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Availability to work flexible schedules, including overtime when required.
