Job summary

Johnson & Johnson is seeking an Engineering Development Co-Op to join our MedTech unit in San Lorenzo, PR and Manatí, PR. The role runs January–December 2027, full-time (40 hours/week).

You will support engineering teams through hands-on project work, documentation, and process improvements while gaining practical experience in product development and manufacturing environments. The role offers exposure to engineering principles, cross-functional collaboration, and hands-on problem-solving.

Qualifications

• Completion of Undergraduate Freshman year is required.
• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related engineering fields.
• GPA of 2.8 or higher is required.
• Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD is preferred.
• Must be enrolled as a full-time student throughout the duration of the Co-Op assignment.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers with design, prototyping, testing, validation, and troubleshooting.
• Support CAD modeling and implement simple design updates under guidance.
• Conduct experiments, collect and analyze data, summarize results for engineering teams.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, engineering drawings, and test reports.

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related engineering fields.
• Have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher, which is reflective of all college coursework.
• Demonstrated understanding of engineering fundamentals and problem-solving methodologies.
• Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar tools is preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Must be enrolled as a full-time student throughout the duration of the Co-Op assignment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous internship, laboratory, manufacturing, research, or project experience.
• Experience with data analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, or Excel.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality systems, or continuous improvement methodologies.
• Ability to effectively communicate technical information to diverse audiences.
• Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future.
• Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.
