Technical Manufacturing Chemist I

Location: Scarborough, ME – Infectious Disease, Abbott Rapid Diagnostics Division.

What You’ll Work On

• Maintains and supports the production schedule
• Investigates problem areas and opportunities for improvement
• Undertakes new procedures with proper safety precautions
• Responsible for in-process QC testing of manufacturing material as it relates to qualifications, quality inspections, and titration
• Maintains quality systems and proper GMP/GLP compliance
• Creates and follows protocols designed around product improvement; responsible for making critical and non‑critical bioreagents for use in product and manufacturing processes using Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Works in a team environment and coordinates manufacturing efforts based on a set production schedule, maintaining raw bioreagent supply as needed to support this schedule

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Life Sciences, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Prior experience in the following areas:
  • Pipette
  • Spectrophotometry
  • HPLC
  • pH meters
  • Gel Electrophoresis or SDS‑PAGE
  • ELISA assays

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision
• Skilled in using computer applications, including spreadsheets, databases, manufacturing, and word processing software (AGILE PLM, SAP, JMP, etc.)
• Experience handling hazardous chemicals and/or biological samples and understanding safety standards and use of CPE/PPE

Base pay: $20.50 – $41.00 per hour (pay range may vary by location).
