The Opportunity

The Specialist Mfg. Tech works out of our Abbott Park (Lake Bluff), IL location in the Core Diagnostics Division. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems are often the first step in patient care decision making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers. This position is responsible for the production of In Vitro Diagnostic products in a controlled manufacturing environment.

What You’ll Work On
  • Performs routine lab operations and basic manufacturing operations. May assist in performing more complex operations.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow written procedures with attention to detail. Understand verbal instructions and effectively communicate within a team.
  • Accountable for completing assigned work orders in a manner that achieves overall schedule requirements.
  • Performs basic electronic transactions associated with systems used for inventory management and document control.
  • Accurately maintains inventory records and assists with conducting inventory verification checks as needed.
  • Documents manufacturing activities in an accurate, timely and complete manner.
  • Maintains accurate Device History Records (DHR) and quality documents to ensure all parts are traceable. Responsible for ensuring the quality of all products and raising any quality issues to the supervisor.
  • Understanding of and ability to use computer software packages.
  • Works with colleagues and the supervisor to resolve basic issues that arise during day‑day operations.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and manage time effectively when workload changes based on the business needs.
  • Understanding of team goals and performance metrics and individually contributes to meet these goals.
  • Performs assigned activities in a manner that contributes to the achievement of team productivity and financial goals.
  • Positively represent the company during tours by demonstrating techniques and sharing appropriate information in a professional manner.
  • Works safely and in accordance with all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of the job training requirements and ensures all training is conducted on time.
  • Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), and other regulatory requirements. Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2 years related work experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (BA, BS) in a scientific or technical discipline is preferred
  • Experience in GMP, ISO, and FDA controlled environments preferred
  • Laboratory, verbal and written communication skills, basic scientific knowledge, basic mathematics, and basic computer skills
  • Highly desirable experience includes participation in teams, GMP/ISO requirements and basic computer/data management. Solution/Chemical handling, Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics
  • 1 – 2 (+) years’ experience with Fermentation, tissue culture and/or making buffer/media solutions
  • SAP, work order tracking system or similar
