Job summary

Ward Getz & Associates LLC (WGA) in Texas is seeking a Technical Manager Hydraulics & Hydrology to lead project teams delivering stormwater management, floodplain analysis, drainage design, and hydraulic modeling from concept through construction.

You will mentor engineers, drive technical execution, support business development, and ensure quality and regulatory compliance across multiple Texas projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field required or equivalent experience.
  • Texas PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire preferred.
  • 8+ years in hydrology, hydraulics, and water resources engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multidisciplinary teams through planning, design, and construction support for water resources projects.
  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget; ensure regulatory compliance and quality.
  • Serve as primary client contact and pursue new business opportunities.
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster cross-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Prepare reports, design documents, and permitting submittals.

Technical Manager Hydraulics & Hydrology Position Summary

As a Technical Manager in our H&H department, you will lead project teams delivering cutting-edge solutions in stormwater management, floodplain analysis, drainage design, and hydraulic modeling. You’ll play a key role in technical execution, client engagement, and business development—ensuring high-quality results from concept through construction. This is a high-visibility leadership role with the opportunity to mentor junior engineers, support strategic growth initiatives, and influence the future of water resources infrastructure in Texas.

Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Management
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams through all phases of water resources projects—from planning and design to construction support.
  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget across multiple projects, ensuring client goals are met or exceeded.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to Lead medium and large sized projects.
  • Makes decisions independently on problems and methods.
  • Provide quality control and ensure deliverables meet regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Technical Expertise
  • Perform and oversee hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using tools such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, FLO-2D, SWMM, and StormCAD.
  • Applies diversified knowledge of principles / practices in broad areas of assignments.
  • Perform and review floodplain mapping, watershed studies, stormwater infrastructure design, and drainage analyses.
  • Performs work requiring advanced techniques. Proficient in 1D/2D modelling using HEC-RAS.
  • Develop technical reports, design documentation, and permitting submittals.
Client Relations & Business Development
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with municipal, industrial, and governmental clients.
  • Identify new business opportunities and contribute to proposal preparation and project pursuits.
  • Represents firm in technical conferences.
  • Present project concepts and technical findings to clients, permitting authorities, and community stakeholders.
Team Mentorship & Collaboration
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster technical development within the H&H team.
  • Promote a collaborative culture and support knowledge-sharing across disciplines.
  • Review engineering calculations, designs, and reports for accuracy and completeness.
Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (Master’s/PhD preferred).
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hiring).
  • Preferred Certifications: CFM, PMP, or LEED accreditation.
Experience
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in hydrology, hydraulics, and water resources engineering.
  • Proficient in modeling and design tools (e.g., HEC-RAS (1D/2D), HEC-HMS, EPA-SWMM, Civil 3D, FLO-2D, GIS).
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory frameworks.
