Job description

We are seeking an experienced Subsystem Technical Lead (SSTL) – Propulsion Systems Cooling to serve as the overarching technical owner for cooling systems across multiple vehicle programs. This role drives the end-to-end technical execution—coordinating cross-functionally with Design Engineering, Program Management, Manufacturing, and Global Suppliers to ensure all thermal systems achieve program targets for performance, quality, cost, weight, and timing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program & Technical Leadership: Own cooling system delivery from initial concept through production launch and lifecycle management; provide technical guidance to Design Release Engineers.
  • Component Oversight: Drive engineering activities for critical hardware, including radiators, condensers, fan assemblies, oil coolers, hoses, tubes, electric coolant heaters, valves, pumps, and chillers.
  • System Integration: Lead packaging, thermal design execution, cost/weight trade-offs, sourcing support, tooling coordination, DFMEA/DVP&R validation, and change management.
  • Launch Support: Direct onsite plant activities during vehicle launch phases, providing rapid issue triage, resource alignment, and daily performance status reporting.
  • Supplier & Issue Resolution: Manage key supplier technical interfaces and cross-functional teams to resolve design, quality, and manufacturing issues efficiently.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent ABET-accredited discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum 8 years of automotive engineering experience, with significant focus on cooling or HVAC components at an OEM or Tier-1 supplier level.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong foundation in automotive cooling architectures, underhood/underbody packaging constraints, manufacturing processes, DFMEA, and DVP&R execution.
  • Leadership & Mobility: Excellent program management and stakeholder influencing skills; willingness to travel 10–20% across North America to assembly plants and supplier sites.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with EV (Electric Vehicle) thermal systems, thermodynamics, heat transfer analysis, component cost modeling, or vehicle-level testing.
  • Proficiency with industry tools such as UG/NX, Teamcenter, Visual Mockup, and Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies.
