The City of Houston Transportation & Drainage Operations is seeking a skilled hardware/controls technician to design, install, and maintain data communication networks and process control equipment at the 6922 Katy Rd facility. This role involves working with vendors, diagnosing network failures, and maintaining ITS assets such as CCTV and Bluetooth systems.
Requirements include an Associate’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent certification, plus two years of related experience.
Performs moderately complex, skilled technical work in the design, installation, operation, maintenance and repair of computer hardware and data communications equipment or industrial control systems.
The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing etc.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works position at the Tier I Level.
Requires an Associate’s degree (two-year program) in a computer science, instrumentation or electronics discipline or the equivalent, such as certification in a technical/specialty program of up to three years in duration
Two (2) years of experience in the design, installation, operation, and/or maintenance of a computerized data communications network or industrial control system are required.
Substitution: Relevant experience (as described above) may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
Depending upon area of specialty -- may require a valid class \"C\" Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving. In the Public Works and Engineering Department, may require a valid class \"C\" or higher Texas Water or Wastewater Plant Operator's license.
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
