City of Houston is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to supervise engineering personnel and manage CIP infrastructure projects in water, wastewater, paving and drainage. You will provide technical guidance to engineers and project managers and oversee contract documents, bids, and design reviews.
Ideal candidates hold a Texas PE license and an engineering degree, with strong communication and leadership skills.

Supervises, coordinates, and manages a variety of engineering activities and personnel necessary to implement Infrastructure projects in the City's Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) including water, wastewater, paving and drainage. Provides technical guidance and training to engineers and project managers.

This position is physically comfortable; the individual has some discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve extensive use of a video display terminal.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level.
Requires graduation from an approved curriculum in engineering by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers with satisfactory standing.
OR
Requires graduation from an engineering or related science curriculum at a recognized institution of higher education, other than a curriculum approved by the Board and passage of the eight-hour fundamentals of engineering examination prescribed by the Board.
Six years of active practice in engineering work after graduation from an approved curriculum in engineering, with one of the years as a licensed Professional Engineer, or in a role of Project Manager or higher obtained after licensure as a Professional Engineer.
A Master's degree in Engineering may be substituted for up to two years of the above experience requirement.
Requires registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. A specific branch of engineering (such as civil, mechanical, structural, etc.) may be required.
May require a valid Texas Driver’s License and in compliance with the City of Houston’s policy on driving.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in design, construction, and project management. Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing, decision-oriented, problem-solving attitude and computer skills will be preferred. Ideal candidate will have a degree concentration in Civil Engineering.
