Job summary

CHIPTON-ROSS Inc. is looking for an experienced engineering writer based in Elkridge, Maryland. The candidate will be responsible for writing and editing technical documents, ensuring clarity and compliance with military and civilian specifications.

A Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field is required along with at least five years of engineering writing experience. Preferred candidates will have familiarity with structured authoring applications and various publishing formats.

Job description

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)
  • Successful candidates will have excellent communications and interpersonal skills, be proactive, possess excellent problem-solving and organizational skills, and be self-motivated.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM discipline or related field
  • Or Military operations and maintenance experience with radar, communications, electro-optics, networks and information technology -based sensors/systems
  • Minimum of 5 years’ engineering writing experience
  • Engineering background or equivalent military background
  • Expert knowledge with MS Office Products
  • Proven ability to manage several tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Self-starter and engaged team member
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Writes, rewrites and/or edits engineering documents such as technical procedure manuals, test requirement documents (TRDs), user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical information and instructions to a wide range of audiences.
  • Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts.
  • Conducts quality review of materials.
  • Publish materials in various formats, including page-based, electronic (basic and interactive), structured (HTML, XML, and SGML).
  • Collaborate with task leads, writers, engineers, and instructors, to develop and deliver sensor/system technical manuals to varying levels of detail and delivery formats.
  • Perform Desktop Publishing tasks for program/project reports, whitepapers, articles, and other documents.
  • Research and compile information from program documents, engineering sources, et al. to develop manual outlines and adhere to military/civilian specifications and standards of engineering technical writing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)
  • 5 - 10 years’ engineering writing experience
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with structured authoring applications, such as: Arbortext, MadCap Flare, or FrameMaker
  • Knowledge of Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE 100)
  • Knowledge of standards – XML, SGML, HTML, S1000D and DITA for structured Content
REQUIRED EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree in STEM discipline or related field is required.

School must be accredited.

WORK HOURS

9/80 workweek.
