Job summary

The American Water Works Association is seeking a Technical Editor to join the Publishing department. You will edit technical materials including manuals, handbooks, standards, data products, and reports, ensuring adherence to AWWA guidelines and the Chicago Manual of Style.

You will manage production schedules and liaise with multiple internal groups to deliver publications. Requirements include a Bachelor's degree in science, journalism, English, or related area, plus three years of

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, journalism, English, or related area required.
  • Training, coursework, or experience in engineering or the sciences including biology or chemistry required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years publishing/editing experience required; technical editing experience on a peer-reviewed journal or on standards/consensus documents preferred.
  • Demonstrated proofreading and project management experience required.
  • Experience with e-publishing and all-digital workflows preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry editorial standards (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style) required.
  • Intermediate computer skills and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe products and experience with online publishing tools preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Edit, rewrite or write, and proofread publications for readability, clarity, syntax, grammar, and conformance with style and standards.
  • Adhere to production schedules and deadlines for projects.
  • Serve as publishing liaison with internal groups and attend meetings.
  • Communicate with authors, pose queries, and incorporate corrections.
  • Collaborate with production editors and graphic designers on projects.
  • Keep current with trends in publishing, digital copyright, and trademark issues.
  • Prepare and submit CIP requests to Library of Congress.
  • Provide backup to Sr. Editorial Manager, Books.
