Datacenter People is seeking a Technical Director, Power Systems for a remote US role. You will be the senior technical authority on power for major data center projects, guiding interconnections, tariffs, PPAs and energization milestones.

You will lead design reviews, tender oversight, and mentoring within a small, expert team while developing client relationships and supporting business origination across the Americas.

Formación

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Extensive senior-level experience in electrical design and/or construction.
• Strong knowledge of US substation design practices and HV/MV distribution systems.
• Proven experience negotiating PPAs and interconnection processes.
• Experience leading interconnection and substation projects from concept to energization.
• Experience managing HV contractor tenders through design and construction.
• Experience mentoring or developing engineering teams.
• Data center design/construction experience preferred; PE licensure and NEC/NFPA/IEEE knowledge advantageous.

Responsabilidades

• Lead complex power strategy mandates for hyperscale and large-scale data center clients.
• Assess utility transmission and distribution networks to identify optimal interconnection opportunities.
• Advise clients on grid connection strategy, utility tariffs, electricity pricing and PPA negotiation.
• Oversee utility interconnection applications from application through energization.
• Provide senior technical review of substation schematic designs and delivery partner designs.
• Provide technical and commercial input into data center and energy center master planning, including generation, storage and site-wide power distribution.
• Oversee substation tenders and recommend preferred bidders to clients.
• Review designs against hyperscaler specifications and sustainability targets.
• Build and maintain senior client relationships and support new business origination.
• Contribute to recruiting, developing and mentoring engineers as the team grows.
• Support the identification of investment opportunities across power and energy infrastructure.
• Manage technical and commercial risk across multiple concurrent projects.

Technical Director | Power Systems | Remote (US)

Datacenter People are currently supporting a specialist investment and advisory practice focused on energy, cloud and digital infrastructure in the search for a Technical Director, Power Systems to join its team on a remote basis in the United States.

This is a senior, consultancy-side role leading complex power mandates for hyperscale and large-scale data center developments across the US and wider Americas, from early-stage power strategy and utility engagement through to substation delivery and energization.

Alongside technical leadership on major projects, you will play a key part in growing the business in the region, contributing to client origination, building the team and developing senior client relationships.

The Opportunity

You will act as a senior technical authority on power for the business’s clients, advising on how and where to secure power for major data center developments and taking ownership of the most complex and high-value mandates.

Working within a small, highly experienced team spanning power, data center and fiber disciplines, you will have significant autonomy and direct exposure to customers, utilities, investors, contractors and vendors.

We’re Looking for Someone Who...

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• Extensive experience in electrical design and/or construction, with a track record at senior or principal level
• Strong knowledge of US substation design practices and medium/high voltage distribution systems
• Proven experience advising on and negotiating power purchase agreements (PPAs)
• Experience leading utility interconnection and substation projects from concept through to energization
• Experience running substation tenders and managing HV contractors through design and construction
• Understanding of on-site power generation (engine and/or turbine) selection and delivery
• Experience managing design-build and EPC contracts
• Proven client-facing experience with senior executives and stakeholders
• Experience contributing to business development, proposals or client origination
• Experience mentoring or developing engineering teams

Data center design and/or construction experience is strongly preferred. PE licensure, experience with ISO/RTO interconnection processes, knowledge of NEC, NFPA and IEEE standards, and renewable or energy storage experience would be highly advantageous.
