A leading semiconductor and silicon IP company is looking for an exceptional Technical Director – Validation to join its Memory Interface Chip business. The company develops advanced semiconductor products and technologies designed to enable faster, higher-performance and more secure data infrastructure. This is a highly hands-on technical leadership role for an experienced validation engineer who enjoys working directly in the lab, developing validation methodologies, automating data collection and collaborating closely with silicon, FPGA, PCB and applications teams.
The role is based in Atlanta, GA, with a hybrid working model and an expectation of spending approximately three days per week onsite.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead lab bring-up and silicon validation of high-speed memory interface and buffer semiconductor products.
- Develop comprehensive test methodologies to validate silicon designs against performance and specification requirements.
- Own validation planning, bench preparation, characterization, execution and methodology improvements.
- Develop Python-based scripts and automation frameworks to control lab equipment, automate data collection and analyze validation results.
- Work closely with silicon design engineers to define experiments, drive characterization, interpret results and communicate findings.
- Investigate system performance and high-speed signaling behavior, including signal integrity and power integrity considerations.
- Provide technical input into FPGA, system and PCB design requirements to support effective validation.
- Troubleshoot complex hardware and silicon issues using advanced test and measurement equipment.
- Support applications and customer-facing teams in understanding, reproducing and resolving technical issues.
- Collaborate with validation engineers, circuit designers, system engineers and other cross-functional teams to drive projects through successful validation.
Key Qualifications:
- B.S. or M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- 20+ years of relevant experience in semiconductor validation, characterization or high-speed hardware engineering.
- Extensive hands-on experience validating and characterizing high-speed or memory I/O devices, ideally including DDR/DDRx interfaces and processor-memory systems.
- Strong understanding of processor-memory interfaces, DDR topologies, protocols and high-speed signaling.
- Deep knowledge of validation hardware, board design fundamentals and high-speed digital systems.
- Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, BERTs, signal generators and other high-speed laboratory equipment.
- Strong Python programming skills and experience developing software and automation frameworks for laboratory environments.
- Experience with PCB design/layout and a strong understanding of signal integrity and power integrity concepts.
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills across hardware, silicon and system-level environments.
- Experience with logic analyzers, protocol analyzers and other hardware test equipment.
- Experience with ATE and/or system-level testing is beneficial.
- Ability to work effectively across validation, circuit design, FPGA, PCB, systems and applications teams.
- Strong technical communication skills, with the ability to present characterization data, analysis and recommendations clearly.
- Willingness to work hands-on in a laboratory environment and take ownership of complex validation problems from planning through resolution.
