Job summary

SCOR UK Company Limited seeks a Director, Sr Software Engineer to guide Velogica's high-availability life insurance underwriting platform from Charlotte, NC. You will own architecture, drive secure, scalable backend solutions, mentor engineers, and influence across teams while delivering hands-on results.

You will collaborate with Product Owners, UW, QA, and implementation teams, maintain CI/CD pipelines, and contribute to testing, security, and observability. Hybrid work policy applies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years of software engineering in Agile delivery.
• Experience delivering reliable software in high-availability environments.
• Strong Java backend and REST API expertise with complex data models.
• Experience leading architectural design across multiple services.
• Ability to influence peers and collaborate without formal authority.
• Mentoring engineers and promoting design quality and testing.

Responsibilities

• Own technical delivery for medium-to-large initiatives across components/services.
• Lead architecture decisions for backend/service-oriented solutions with trade-offs.
• Influence direction and practices through clear design artifacts and reviews.
• Contribute to unit, integration, and regression test efforts.
• Enforce CI/CD quality gates including security checks and automated tests.
• Document runbooks, system details, and known issues.
• Participate in sprint planning, demos, and daily scrum.
• Support client onboarding and integration activities.
• Lead incident response and drive corrective improvements.
• Improve observability through logging, tracing, and alerts.
