Job summary

Ledgebrook is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead cross-functional software architecture across underwriting, rating, claims, and shared services. This hands-on role involves writing production code, shaping patterns, and delivering scalable, maintainable solutions aligned with the technology strategy.

You will mentor senior engineers, drive end-to-end technical initiatives, and design LLM-powered workflows to improve underwriter productivity.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with staff-level impact across multiple components or teams
• Proven ability to lead ambiguous, cross-team technical bets across domains
• Design end-to-end systems with maintainability, testability, and long-term operability
• Strong systems mindset for extensibility, scalability, and performance
• Track record elevating peers through architecture reviews and mentorship
• Experience with CI/CD and production debugging/observability
• Excellent communication across engineering, product, and business partners
• Ability to break down complex work into deliverable pieces

Responsibilities

• Shape architecture and technical direction across underwriting, rating, claims, and shared services
• Drive end-to-end technical initiatives and clearly communicate value, status, and progress
• Design and implement frontend and backend components using TS/JavaScript (Node.js) and Python
• Partner with product managers, designers, engineering managers, and domain experts
• Raise engineering quality through design docs, code reviews, observability, and CI/CD
• Mentor senior engineers and unblock teams to grow toward staff-level impact
• Apply build-vs-buy judgment to improve underwriter speed and data capability
• Design and ship LLM-powered workflows to boost productivity
