This is a senior individual contributor role with no formal people management responsibility; leadership is exercised through technical influence, architecture and design stewardship, high-quality implementation, and mentoring of engineers while maintaining hands-on delivery ownership.

Responsibilities
  • Own technical delivery for medium-to-large initiatives across multiple components/services.
  • Lead architecture and design decisions for backend/service-oriented solutions, including performance, maintainability, security, and operability trade-offs.
  • Influence technical direction and engineering practices across teams without formal authority using clear design artifacts, code reviews, and evidence-based recommendations.
  • Contribute meaningfully to implementation and test automation efforts, including unit, integration, and regression coverage.
  • Use CI/CD pipelines and enforce quality gates including peer review, linting/static checks, security checks, and automated tests before release.
  • Produce and maintain project, system, and testing documentation, including runbooks and known-issue notes.
  • Participate in sprint planning, refinement, demos, and daily scrum to communicate progress and unblock impediments.
  • Partner with implementation and business teams to support client onboarding and integration activities.
  • Participate in rotating production support and incident response, including leading diagnosis and coordination for complex incidents and driving corrective/preventive improvements.
  • Implement and improve observability practices (structured logging, tracing, diagnostics, and actionable alerts).
  • Participate in controls compliance and auditing activities and adhere to SCOR information security policies and best practices, including PII handling, secrets management, and required security training.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of SDLC standards, tooling, and team effectiveness.
  • Model and encourage responsible AI-assisted development practices for coding, debugging, testing, and documentation.
  • Other duties as required for the position.
Qualifications

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience in Agile delivery environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver reliable software in high-availability, high-volume service ecosystems.
  • Strong expertise with Java and service-oriented backend development, including REST APIs, data persistence, and SQL against complex data models.
  • Demonstrated experience with modern engineering workflows and tooling, including source control, issue tracking, CI/CD, code review, and automated testing.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical design and implementation for complex features spanning multiple services/components.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence peers and partner teams through technical credibility, communication, and collaborative execution.
  • Demonstrated mentoring/coaching of engineers through design and code feedback.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving, verbal/written communication, and stakeholder collaboration skills.
  • Ability to operate with high autonomy, proactively identify risks, propose mitigations, and drive work to completion.
  • Cloud-hosted systems and operational tooling (compute, storage, queues, metrics/logging).
  • Observability tooling.
  • Cross-team technical lead experience.

Insurance/re-insurance domain knowledge.

  • Scope: Owns technical delivery for large initiatives with cross-service and cross-team impact.
  • Complexity: Solves ambiguous, multi-system problems with clear trade-off decisions across performance, maintainability, security, and delivery speed.
  • Autonomy: Executes independently with minimal day-to-day direction while maintaining transparent stakeholder communication.
