Job summary

Steelman Partners in Las Vegas seeks a Technical Director – Architecture to lead the firm's technical practice, establishing standards, QA/QC, and best practices for project documentation and construction administration. Position Summary

The Technical Director – Architecture is responsible for leading the firm's technical practice and ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality architectural projects. This role establishes firmwide technical standards, quality assurance and quality control procedures, and best practices for project documentation and construction administration. The Technical Director serves as the firm's primary technical resource, providing leadership in building codes, constructability, detailing, building systems coordination, specifications, and project execution while mentoring architectural staff and supporting project teams throughout all phases of design and construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain firmwide architectural technical standards, documentation requirements, and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures.
  • Lead technical reviews at key project milestones, including Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documents, permit submissions, and issued-for-construction packages.
  • Provide expertise in building codes, accessibility, life safety, constructability, building envelope design, detailing, and coordination with engineering disciplines.
  • Oversee architectural QA/QC reviews to ensure consistency, completeness, coordination, and compliance with firm standards.
  • Develop, review, and manage the firm's Project Manual standards, including specifications, front-end documents, and technical content, ensuring consistency and alignment with project requirements and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with Project Directors and Design Leaders to balance design intent, technical excellence, project budgets, and schedules.
  • Support project teams during Construction Administration by providing technical guidance related to RFIs, submittals, substitutions, field conditions, and change management.
  • Mentor Project Architects and technical staff through technical reviews, training, and professional development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the BIM Manager to develop, implement, and maintain Revit standards, templates, libraries, and documentation workflows, ensuring alignment between technical practice standards and BIM processes.
  • Promote continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned and implementing best practices across the firm's portfolio.
  • Research and evaluate emerging building systems, construction methods, materials, and code updates to enhance project quality and technical performance.
  • Establish and oversee firmwide standards for interdisciplinary technical coordination, ensuring seamless integration between architecture, interior design, engineering, lighting, branding, graphics, and specialty consultants through structured coordination processes, milestone reviews, and quality control procedures. Provide technical leadership in resolving complex coordination issues to improve constructability and reduce conflicts during construction.
