Roblox is seeking a Technical Director, Applied AI to own the technical direction of agentic AI systems integrated into Roblox Studio. This hands-on IC role sits at the intersection of platform engineering, AI systems, and developer experience.

You will set architecture, design patterns, and write production code for scalable AI features used by millions of creators and developers worldwide. Strong leadership and deep technical skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of engineering experience and ownership of large-scale platforms.
• Hands-on experience building production-grade AI systems beyond chat interfaces.
• Strong systems and software engineering skills with architecture design.
• Proven track record defining evaluation frameworks for AI product quality.
• Background in developer tools or IDE-like platforms and leading quality across teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and build agentic AI systems at the core of the AI-Native IDE.
• Decide how Studio uses models, agents, retrieval, tool calling, and context management.
• Own the quality bar and evaluation strategy with human-in-the-loop processes.
• Optimize systems for latency, throughput, and cost (caching, routing, distillation, quantization).
• Share reusable patterns and raise applied-AI fluency across Studio teams.
