Job summary

1872 Consulting is seeking a Technical Director with extensive experience leading enterprise technology strategy and delivery. You will connect strategy, architecture, engineering, and delivery while staying hands-on with modern technology.

You will work with CIOs and CTOs to shape technical strategies, oversee transformation roadmaps, and provide hands-on prototyping and AI-enabled solutions. Travel and senior client-facing responsibilities are expected.

Qualifications

• 15+ years across technology, architecture, engineering, consulting, or transformation.
• Strong enterprise architecture and hands-on engineering background.
• Experience taking complex initiatives from strategy through implementation.
• Current coding/prototyping capability.
• Hands-on experience with AI/GenAI, agents, automation, or similar emerging technologies.
• Strong understanding of delivery, estimation, staffing, risk, and technology economics.

Responsibilities

• Lead executive discovery, technology strategy, and transformation roadmaps.
• Set architecture direction across cloud, application modernization, data/AI, integration, DevOps, security, and platform engineering.
• Remain hands-on with coding, prototyping, automation, and solution development.
• Build or prototype modern AI solutions, including agents, RAG, MCP-based solutions, and workflow automation.
• Lead technical discovery, solutioning, RFP/RFI responses, proposals, and executive presentations.
• Shape estimates, staffing, delivery models, and commercial assumptions.
• Support complex engagements from presales through delivery and operationalization.
• Help identify and grow strategic client opportunities.

We’re looking for a senior technical leader who can connect strategy, architecture, engineering, and delivery while remaining hands-on with modern technology.

This is not a traditional presales or enterprise architecture role. You’ll work directly with CIOs, CTOs, CDOs, Chief Architects, and engineering leaders to assess complex environments, shape technical strategies, support enterprise pursuits, and stay involved through implementation.

What you’ll do:

• Lead executive discovery, technology strategy, and transformation roadmaps
• Set architecture direction across cloud, application modernization, data/AI, integration, DevOps, security, and platform engineering
• Remain hands-on with coding, prototyping, automation, and solution development
