Responsibilities

  • Deliver prescribed radiation therapy using equipment according to standards.

  • Follow department policies, safety, and QA standards.
  • Schedule treatments and coordinate with physicists and staff.
  • Check prescriptions and patient identification for accurate treatment.
  • Prepare documentation such as treatment plans and progress reports.
  • Position patients and handle life-support equipment with care.
  • Reinforce physician recommendations and manage side effects.
  • Perform verification, port films, and any required corrections.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver a prescribed and planned course of radiation therapy, using radiation therapy equipment according to established practices and standards.
  • Obtain patient history, answer patient questions, explain procedures; observe patient for any unusual reactions or events during treatment.
  • Follow established departmental and hospital policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental and/or infection control standards.
  • Schedule patients for treatments; interface with physicist at initiation of treatment; consult with supportive care physicians, nurses, and social workers.
  • Check prescription, diagnosis, chart and patient identification, ensuring accurate treatments.
  • Prepare electronic and/or written documentation as required by the profession and the department, such as evaluation results, individualized treatment plans, progress reports and other reports.
  • Prepare room and equipment for patient; transfer immobilized patient from stretcher to treatment couch, giving special care to catheters, IVs, oxygen, respirator, chest tubes, and other life support; position patient in prescribed anatomical positions for treatment.
  • Reinforce recommendations given to patients by the physician, dietician, or other care provider concerning reactions to treatment and care of the irradiated area, and prevention or treatment of generalized and local side effects.
  • Perform verification and port film exposures for all treated areas and make corrections or changes to therapy as directed by physician.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance for the department with regulatory agencies as required.
  • Provide general staff orientation / education.
  • Perform periodic image quality control / quality assurance monitoring including PACS administration assistance.
  • Serve as liaison for hospital information systems applications that apply to the Imaging department.
  • Practice will be in accordance with laws and regulations and will adhere to established policies, procedures and practice guidelines.
Qualifications
  • Minimum associate’s degree in radiography with a certification in radiation therapy required; bachelor’s degree in radiation therapy preferred.
  • Graduate of a JRCERT approved school registered through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy and Radiography.
  • State of Ohio licensed radiation therapist and radiographer; ARRT license; CPR certified.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of radiation therapy experience preferred.
Physical Demands

Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, with occasional walking or standing.
