Job summary

Motion Recruitment represents a major airline seeking a Technical Coach (Senior Engineer) to join their Delivery Excellence team in Fort Worth, TX. This onsite/hybrid role requires 3 days on site per week and is a 6- to 12-month contract with potential extension or conversion.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years of hands-on software development, strong coaching skills, and experience with DevOps, TDD, pair programming, and modern engineering practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent.
• 8+ years of hands-on software development experience.
• TDD expertise, with fluency in Red Green Refactor.
• Pair programming experience (Driver/Navigator).
• Refactoring and code reviews experience.
• XP, BDD, OO design patterns, and automation knowledge.
• Proficiency in Java and/or Python, plus an OO language.
• AI and ML experience.
• Coaching/mentoring or developer enablement experience; leadership preferred.
• Experience with CI/CD and DevOps tools across the lifecycle.
• Strong verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

Our client, a major airline, is actively looking for a Technical Coach (Senior Engineer) to join their team in Fort Worth, TX! a role is onsite hybrid 3x a week, so local candidates are required.

***This is a 6-12 month contract with the opportunity to extend or convert based on business needs***

This Technical Coach will join the Delivery Excellence organization, which helps development teams improve their daily work habits, align to delivery metrics, and build resilient, best-in-class digital products. The role guides whole product teams toward their objectives and a more effective product vision through modern engineering practices.

This is a coaching and developer enablement role, not a project-based development role. The ideal candidate is a hands-on or former software engineer with strong communication and coaching skills who can mentor engineering teams on best practices (DevOps, Agile, TDD, pair programming, etc.). Coaches may occasionally code during pairing sessions or demonstrations but are not expected to be full-time contributors. The team is open to strong technical leads, architects, and senior engineers with mentoring experience who lack a formal coaching title, and they are looking to move quickly.

Responsibilities

• Coach teams in an immersive dojo / coaching space.
• Embed with teams to learn their environment and behaviors, then design and implement coaching interventions for software engineers and architects.
• Lead large pairing and mobbing sessions to maximize learning while narrowing focus.
• Evaluate products and portfolios and assess their architecture and engineering opportunities.
• Facilitate Value Stream Mapping sessions to identify opportunities in development and operational value streams, increase flow, eliminate waste, decouple applications, and enable a service-based ecosystem.
• Define and curate leading indicators and metrics to measure progress toward desired outcomes.
• Serve as a go-to expert on modern technology, architecture, engineering, and DevOps practices.
• Design and develop facilitator-led materials on modern engineering practices and ways of working.
• Work with teams and leadership to influence and support the engineering culture.
• Contribute to the developer experience platform that removes organizational friction from continuous delivery.

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• 8+ years of experience, including strong hands-on software development.
• Test-Driven Development (TDD) expertise, with the ability to speak fluently to Red Green Refactor.
• Pair programming experience, including the Driver/Navigator model.
• Refactoring and code review experience.
• Extreme Programming knowledge, plus experience with BDD, object-oriented design patterns, and automation.
• Proficiency in Java and/or Python, and at least one object-oriented language.
• AI and ML experience.
• Coaching, mentoring, or developer enablement experience. Formal coaching is preferred but not required if leadership and mentoring are demonstrated.
• Experience with CI/CD and with implementing or operating DevOps tools across the development lifecycle.
• Strong verbal and written communication with all levels of the organization.
