Job summary

Sompo Reserving Platform team in New York seeks a data-driven reserving specialist to advance the design, development, and maintenance of SRP tools, with a focus on data controls and robust reporting.

You will collaborate with actuaries, manage data sets, and ensure timely Solvency II and regulatory reporting using SQL and Power BI.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Actuarial Science, CS, Math, Stats, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Enhance design, development, and maintenance of the in-house Sompo Reserving Platform and tools.
• Execute data controls and validation processes.
• Collaborate with actuaries to maintain and improve reserving methodologies within SRP Workbook.
• Manage data sets used in the reserving process within the Reserving Technical team.
• Record, resolve, and communicate data queries effectively.
• Carry out quarterly reserving data controls and validation processes.
• Refine reserving segmentations and update reserving parameters as needed.
• Execute and reconcile GLSU topsides with Finance.
• Sustain and optimize central SRP reconciliation for SQL and Power BI.
• Maintain quarterly Solvency II report for UK regulatory reporting and support related reports.

Job description

• Contribute to enhancing the design, development, and maintenance of our in-house Sompo Reserving Platform reserving system and tools.
• Execute data controls and validation processes.
• Collaborate with actuaries to maintain, enhance, and implement robust reserving methodologies within SRP workbook.
• Work within the Reserving Technical team to manage and compile the data sets used in the reserving process.
• Ensure that data queries and issues are duly recorded, effectively resolved, and clearly communicated.
• Carry out and enhance where appropriate quarterly reserving data controls and validation processes.
• Work with the Reserving Function to refine reserving segmentations and update reserving parameters as required.
• Execute and reconcile GLSU topsides in collaboration with the Finance Department.
• Sustain and optimize the central reconciliation process for SRP for both SQL and PowerBI interface, while actively seeking opportunities to enhance operational efficiency.
• Maintain and produce quarterly Solvency II report for UK regulatory reporting.
• Produce a range of core and regulatory reports to support the reserving process.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in P&C insurance reserving, with a strong focus on data management and system development.
• Strong programming skill in SQL.
• Proven experience with ETL, data warehousing, version control, and visualization tools (e.g. Power BI).
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets and debug complex SQL stored procedures.
• Highly organised with the ability to think critically and independently.
• Proficiency in actuarial reserving software and tools.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
