Job summary

Birch Creek Energy in St. Louis, MO, seeks a Technical Accounting Director to serve as the organization's GAAP expert across complex topics, including VIE consolidations, HLVB, and project financings.

You will partner with the Controller, CIO, FP&A, tax, and auditors to ensure positions are well-documented and audit-ready in a multi-entity environment. This hybrid role requires 8+ years of experience, an active CPA, and deep knowledge of ASC 810, 606, 842, 323, 360, 740.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in energy or public accounting.
• Active CPA license required.
• Deep working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and ASC topics.
• Experience with multi-entity consolidation and technical memoing.

Responsibilities

• Own technical accounting within Sage Intacct on complex transactions, including VIE consolidation, tax equity structures, revenue recognition, leases, impairment, taxes, and business combinations.
• Evaluate accounting implications of new project acquisitions, financings, capitalization of costs, and partnership structures; advise on GAAP treatment.
• Manage the consolidation of the entity structure, ensuring accurate elimination entries and NCI/tax equity allocations across 100+ entities.
• Collaborate with the Controller and accounting ops to reflect technical positions in close and financial statements.
• Develop and maintain accounting policies, technical memos, and internal controls documentation for audit-ready controls.
• Monitor the impact of new GAAP updates and lead implementation efforts.
