Job summary

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is seeking a Senior Director – Head of Technology, Therapeutic Areas and External Scientific Innovation, to be located in either Cambridge, MA; Spring House, PA; La Jolla, CA or Beerse, Belgium.

The role oversees the technology profile, strategy, portfolio and delivery across Immunology, Oncology and Neuroscience, partnering with DDSAI to shape data, AI and analytics priorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Biology, Bioinformatics, Chemistry, Medicine or a related scientific or technical discipline.
• A PhD, MD or equivalent experience in a relevant life‑science, translational, clinical or data discipline is an advantage.
• A minimum of 10 years of technology or digital product experience in pharmaceutical R&D, including 5 years leading people.

Responsibilities

• Lead people, products, platforms, systems and projects across the portfolio, including direct reports and strategic partners.
• Establish outcome measures and report progress, value, risk and resource needs for workstreams.
• Serve as a member of the Research Systems Senior Leadership Team and represent the technology agenda.
• Develop and maintain a multi-year technology, data and AI profile and roadmap aligned with strategies and standards.
• Collaborate with DDSAI to translate scientific needs into scalable technology, data and AI capabilities.
• Ensure day-to-day operation, lifecycle management and security of in-scope platforms.
• Lead governance to ensure system quality, regulatory compliance and privacy.
• Assess value, feasibility, cost and risk; provide clear investment options.
• Co-lead with DDSAI the design, build, integration and deployment of data products and AI-enabled solutions.
• Build executable implementation plans with milestones, owners and adoption measures.
• Prioritize the portfolio with DDSAI leaders based on value, data readiness and strategic fit.
• Establish patterns for secure onboarding of external collaborations and data assets.
• Maintain awareness of trends across immunology, oncology and neuroscience to guide technology choices.
• Translate scientific requirements into resilient, scalable technology products and data capabilities.
• Partner with DDSAI to ensure scalable integrations across lab instruments, ELN, LIMS and clinical systems.
