Job summary

Ohio State University seeks a Licensing Officer to cultivate strong relationships with faculty and staff developers, focusing on technology licensing and commercialization within the College of Engineering.

You will identify innovations with commercial potential, evaluate their business cases, and help craft marketing summaries and strategies while participating in license negotiations with partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physical sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Preliminary knowledge proficiency in licensing and intellectual property principles.
  • Active participant in deal teams with and without being a deal lead.
  • Able to provide recommendations and justifications on filing decisions with modest supervision.
  • Independently manages a small to mid-sized IP portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate and sustain relationships with university faculty and staff creators in technology licensing and commercialization.
  • Identify university-owned innovations with commercial applications and evaluate their business case.
  • Prepare non-confidential summaries for marketing; support marketing strategies for innovations.
  • Participate in negotiation of license and option agreements with new and existing partners.
