Job summary

The Ohio State University’s ERIK | Technology Commercialization seeks a Licensing Officer to cultivate relationships with faculty and staff inventors, evaluate commercial potential, and advise on technology licensing and IP strategy.

You will prepare marketing summaries, help develop marketing plans for innovations, and participate in license negotiations with partners, reporting to the ERIK team at Columbus, Ohio, with a strong preference for on-site work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physical sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Preliminary knowledge proficiency in licensing and intellectual property principles.
  • Examples include preliminary licensing terms, targeted fundamentals of intellectual property, basic understanding of marketing methods, and intermediate negotiation knowledge.
  • Active participant in deal teams with and without being a deal lead.
  • Able to provide recommendations and justifications on filing decisions with modest supervision. Independently manages a small to mid-sized IP portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate and sustain relationships with faculty and staff inventors in the College of Engineering.
  • Identify university-owned innovations with commercial potential and evaluate business cases.
  • Prepare non-confidential summaries for marketing purposes.
  • Support development and implementation of marketing strategies for innovations.
  • Participate in license and option negotiations with new and existing partners.
