Job summary

checkmk-gmbh is seeking a technically hands-on leader to guide a cross-functional software team of 4–6 engineers in a remote-first environment. You will balance day-to-day development with people leadership, coaching, hiring, and shaping a healthy team culture.

You will coach engineers, conduct career conversations, and ensure on-time delivery of high-quality code while staying hands-on with core product work.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on software development experience, primarily in Python.
• Experience leading or managing an engineering team, incl. hiring and on-time delivery of quality code.
• University degree in computer science, engineering, or comparable field.
• Able to stay hands-on with code while driving broader team impact.
• Product-oriented mindset with strong written communication for async, remote work.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands‑on software development experience, primarily in Python; familiarity with C++ or Rust is a plus.
• Prior experience leading or managing an engineering team, including hiring, feedback, and on‑time delivery of quality code.
• University degree in computer science, engineering, or a comparable field.
• Comfortable remaining hands‑on with code while also driving broader team impact.
• Product‑oriented mindset with strong written communication skills suited to asynchronous, remote work.
• Fluent in English; German fluency is a strong plus.
