Job summary

Challenge Manufacturing in Walker, MI is seeking a Team Leader for the 2nd shift (2:00 PM - 10:00 PM). You will oversee personnel loading/unloading trucks, verify counts, and ensure safety and quality standards are met.

You will train team members, certify them on workstation skills, track inbound/outbound schedules, and coordinate with supervisors and forklift drivers to keep operations running smoothly. Candidates should be able to read, write, and follow procedures, have English proficiency,

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English to safely perform duties.
  • Stand for 8–10 hours daily.
  • High school diploma or GED; or 6 months related experience or equivalent.
  • Maintain quality and safety standards.
  • Read, write, and understand work instructions.
  • Operate PC and scan gun.
  • Willingness to work 2nd shift in Walker, MI.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee personnel loading/unloading trucks and verify counts.
  • Ensure safe operation of equipment by team members.
  • Train team members on processes and tasks; certify progression on the skills matrix.
  • Track inbound/outbound truck schedules and FIFO.
  • Communicate status with supervisor and forklift drivers.
  • Spot check labeling of staged containers.

Team Leaders help to ensure that safety, quality and productivity requirements are being achieved by;First line of support to team members when abnormal conditions existEscalating issues so that appropriate resources are involved when abnormalities occur,Ensure continuity of operations by filling in for team members when necessary (absenteeism, break periods, etc.)Working on continuous improvement projectsWhat You'll Do:Oversees personnel that are loading and unloading trucks, verifying counts, inspecting for damaged packaging,Ensure safe operation of equipment by team members.Train team members’ on various processes, procedures and job tasks within their work zoneCertify team members’ on individual workstations to satisfy each level of progression on the skills matrixTrack and communicate status for inbound/outbound truck schedules.Constant communication with supervisor and fork lift drivers.Verify EDI requirements and setup/manage loads.Lead and assist shipping personnel as needed.Spot check the labeling of staged containers throughout the day.Enforce FIFO procedures that are set in place.Understand and follow plant rules including proper dress, hair and cell phone usage.When and Where:This will be a 2nd Shift / 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM M-F position located at our Plant in Walker, MI.Occasionally, this may require you to arrive early, stay late, or work on weekends, outside of our regular hours, to ensure we successfully meet customer needs, deadlines, or urgent requests.What You Need to Have:Must be 18 years of age or olderAbility to read, write, speak, and understand English at a level sufficient to safely and effectively perform job duties, including following work instructions, safety procedures, and company communications.Able to stand for 8-10 hours a day and be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Ability to maintain quality and safety standards.Ability to read and write and understand work instructions.Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.Ability to receive, track, and distribute materials, supplies, and equipment.Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.Ability to read, sort, check, count, and verify numbers.Ability to perform simple arithmetic.Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel.Ability to receive, stock, and/or deliver goods.Ability to operate PC and scan gun.Has high standards of performance for self.Takes responsibility for actions, results, and mistakes.Is thorough, accurate, and reliable when performing and completing job tasks; demonstrates honesty and integrity in all aspects of work.Takes positive action to objectively resolve conflict by listening, staying focused on issue to find resolution, and monitoring progress.Maintains positive relationships by constructively resolving conflicts.Uses feedback from others to continuously improve performance and work relationships.Moves within own and/or other work areas (flexes) to support plant flow.Works with sense of urgency to meet needs of customers.Has necessary experience, skills, and knowledge to perform all aspects of job; rotates through all job responsibilities.Maintains knowledge and skills to perform job effectively.Has ability to focus on benefits of change and see it as positive; approaches change or newness in constructive/objective manner; views change as learning opportunity.Looks for good in others; works collaboratively with others; shares information and knowledge.Is at work when scheduled and ensures coverage when absent; takes timely breaks/lunches; uses time wisely.
