Job summary

Heritage Behavioral Health Center is seeking a Clinical Team Lead - School-Based in Decatur, IL. The role combines direct student mental health services with supervision of up to four School-Based Mental Health Professionals to ensure high-quality, ethical care.

Salary is commensurate with education, licensure, and experience:

• Master's Degree with Licensure (LPC or LSW): Starting at $64,0000-$67,000/annually + paid wellness day every other Friday

Additional compensation available for candidates with advanced clinical licensure (e.g., LCPC, LCSW) or supervisory certifications.

Your Role

The Clinical Team Lead, School-Based, carries the same direct-service role and functions as a Mental Health Professional, School-Based - providing assessment, counseling, and crisis intervention to support students' emotional and psychological well-being - while also providing clinical supervision and oversight for a team of up to four School-Based Mental Health Professionals. This position requires collaboration with educators, families, and community resources to develop and implement individualized support plans, while also ensuring that the school-based clinical team delivers consistent, high-quality, and ethically sound mental health services. The Clinical Team Lead helps build staff clinical skill and confidence through supervision and case consultation, while contributing to a safe and inclusive school climate through direct services and mental health education and prevention programming. Ultimately, this position aims to foster resilience and healthy development in students, and to support the professional growth of the school-based clinical team, enabling both students and staff to thrive.

Core Responsibilities

Direct Service:

• Conduct mental health assessments and develop individualized support plans tailored to student needs
• Provide individual and group counseling sessions to address a range of emotional, behavioral, and social issues
• Collaborate with teachers, school staff, and families to coordinate care and support student progress
• Respond promptly and effectively to mental health crises, ensuring student safety and appropriate follow-up
• Design and implement school-wide mental health promotion and prevention programs to enhance awareness and reduce stigma

Supervision and Oversight:

• Provide clinical supervision, case consultation, and day-to-day oversight for up to four School-Based Mental Health Professionals
• Monitor the quality, timeliness, and clinical appropriateness of assessments, treatment plans, and documentation completed by supervised staff
• Support the professional development of supervised staff through coaching, feedback, and guidance on complex or high-risk cases
• Assist supervised staff in responding to student mental health crises, providing guidance and escalation support as needed
• Coordinate caseload assignments and coverage across assigned school sites to ensure consistent service delivery
• Serve as a liaison between the school-based clinical team and school administration, families, and community partners on program-level matters
• Participate in the hiring, onboarding, and training of new School-Based Mental Health Professionals as needed

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The required skills enable the Clinical Team Lead to effectively assess and address the complex mental health needs of students while also guiding and strengthening the clinical practice of the school-based team. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for collaborating with educators, families, community partners, and supervised staff to create comprehensive support systems. The ability to apply evidence-based therapeutic techniques and clinical supervision practices ensures that interventions and staff development are both effective and appropriate for the school setting. Skills such as trauma-informed care and cultural responsiveness enhance the Team Lead's capacity to serve diverse student populations and to model these practices for supervised staff. Additionally, leadership, organizational, and program development skills are utilized to coordinate team caseloads, support staff growth, and implement mental health education initiatives that promote a positive school climate.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related mental health field
• Active, unrestricted Illinois licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Social Worker (LSW)
• Experience working with children and adolescents in a clinical or school setting
• Knowledge of evidence-based mental health interventions and crisis management techniques
• Strong understanding of confidentiality laws and ethical standards related to school-based mental health services
• Minimum of 21 years of age
• A valid driver's license, reliable means of transportation, and proof of automobile insurance

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced clinical licensure (e.g., LCPC or LCSW)
• Prior supervisory, lead, or team coordination experience
• Experience working within a school system or educational environment
• Training in trauma-informed care and culturally responsive practices
• Familiarity with special education processes and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
• Certification in suicide prevention and intervention strategies
