Base pay range

$70,000.00/yr - $110,000.00/yr

Team Lead, Payroll – Responsibilities
  • Lead global payroll team in full cycle payroll, benefits, reconciliations and government remittances.
  • Ensure accurate, timely processing of wage adjustments, retroactive pay, statutory holiday pay, overtime, bonuses, deductions, and contributions for direct employees and EOR workers.
  • Implement monthly reconciliation process and provide to accounting & finance team.
  • Act as primary liaison with outsourced payroll vendor, driving accountability for service levels and issue resolution.
  • Keep abreast of legislative changes and coordinate system parameter changes.
  • Maintain employee confidence by protecting payroll operations and ensuring data integrity across HRIS, payroll, and vendor systems.
  • Provide customer service, respond to employee queries, and facilitate continuous improvement of payroll processes.
  • Prepare audit reports, support financial audits, and monitor compliance with accounting policies and internal controls.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train direct reports, set performance goals, and conduct performance reviews.
  • Participate in departmental strategy execution to enhance service delivery, staff engagement, and operational efficiencies.
  • Act with integrity, stay current on payroll legal requirements, and maintain awareness of broad trends.
  • Support special HR and payroll projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 4-9 years of progressive payroll experience, including leadership or team lead responsibilities and proven project management skills.
  • PCP or CPM designation (or international equivalent) required; strong knowledge of payroll regulations, tax laws, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience in accounting/reconciliations of payroll liabilities accounts and payroll GL knowledge.
  • Hands‑on experience with outsourced payroll vendors (global payroll experience preferred), HRIS, and payroll systems.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Experience managing payroll across multiple jurisdictions; strong knowledge of Canadian and US payroll required, with global exposure highly valued.
Interpersonal
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while meeting deadlines accurately.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Excellent customer service skills, ability to explain complex issues at an understandable level.
