Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Team Lead: Functional Consultants based in the United States.

As a Team Lead: Functional Consultants, you will lead and develop a team of functional consultants while ensuring high standards of configuration and process design across client engagements. You will oversee individual performance, career progression, and professional development, providing the guidance and structure needed to help consultants grow. Working closely with technical architects, engagement leaders, and other team leads, you will establish consistent functional practices and drive continuous quality improvement. You will also build and manage an onboarding and development program for junior talent, helping new consultants become confident and billable professionals. While engagement delivery and client relationships remain under other teams' ownership, you will play a critical role in ensuring consultant readiness, work quality, and long-term team success. This is an opportunity to combine people leadership, functional expertise, and talent development in a remote-first consulting environment.

Accountabilities
  • People Leadership and Performance Management: Directly supervise assigned Functional Consultants, establish clear expectations and priorities, and conduct regular one-on-one meetings. Set individual goals, monitor progress, complete performance and HR reviews, provide evidence-based feedback, and address performance gaps in partnership with People Operations when necessary.
  • Team Engagement and Alignment: Monitor team morale and engagement, address concerns, and strengthen communication between leadership and individual contributors. Support recruitment through candidate reviews, interviews, and structured evaluation feedback.
  • Functional Standards and Quality Assurance: Define, document, and maintain standards for configuration, process design, and solution documentation in collaboration with Technical Solution Architects. Conduct periodic quality reviews, track findings through resolution, and provide actionable coaching to improve the consistency and quality of deliverables.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify recurring quality issues, emerging risks, and opportunities to improve functional practices. Escalate concerns when appropriate, support complex functional design decisions, and collaborate with peer Team Leads to maintain consistent standards across the organization.
  • Career Development and Progression: Build a detailed understanding of each consultant's strengths, skills, and development opportunities. Maintain individual career plans, assess readiness for advancement, and prepare promotion recommendations supported by engagement results, quality reviews, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Professional Growth and Career Guidance: Help consultants explore career paths, including functional specialization, expansion into other practices, and progression toward lead or leadership positions. Partner with leadership to establish clear consulting career development standards.
  • Engagement Staffing and Skills Alignment: Participate in weekly staffing discussions and provide informed recommendations based on consultants' skills, certifications, availability, client requirements, and development goals. Identify skill gaps, recommend training or shadowing opportunities, and advocate for suitable stretch assignments while balancing utilization and business needs.
  • Workload and Capacity Management: Identify potential staffing mismatches, prolonged underutilization, excessive workloads, and burnout risks, raising concerns and recommending appropriate solutions.
  • Junior Talent Pipeline: Own the onboarding and development of Junior Functional Consultants by establishing documented processes, training requirements, expectations, and structured ramp‑up plans. Organize shadowing opportunities with experienced consultants, define learning objectives, and monitor progress.
  • Junior Consultant Readiness: Establish clear criteria for when junior consultants are ready for billable assignments, coordinate readiness assessments with consulting leadership, and provide regular coaching and feedback. Track time‑to‑billable metrics and continuously improve onboarding and development programs.
Requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience in a consulting role.
  • Previous experience leading, mentoring, or supervising consultants, either in a formal management position or through informal leadership responsibilities.
  • Hands-on experience with configuration and process design using Jira and other Atlassian tools.
  • Strong understanding of functional best practices, configuration standards, and quality expectations across client engagements.
  • Proven ability to balance team development, employee wellbeing, and professional growth with billable utilization and business objectives.
  • Experience identifying skills gaps and translating them into practical development plans, coaching initiatives, and training programs.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams, particularly with Engagement Leads, Project Management, the PMO, Technical Solution Architects, and fellow Team Leads.
  • Strong organizational and performance management skills, with the ability to establish measurable goals and follow through on individual and team success metrics.
  • Ability to work in alignment with organizational culture, leadership expectations, and shared values.
  • Comfortable working in a remote-first or hybrid environment, using video conferencing, collaboration platforms, and digital communication tools.
  • Availability during standard business hours, with flexibility to accommodate client and internal meetings across time zones, including occasional early mornings, evenings, or extended hours.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for internal meetings and onsite client requirements.
  • A dedicated and professional remote workspace with reliable internet connectivity and consistent availability.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of a primarily computer-based role, including prolonged sitting and regular participation in video meetings.
  • Authorization to work in the United States, along with willingness to successfully complete required background checks and pre‑employment drug testing.
Benefits
  • Primarily remote work arrangement, with applicants considered throughout the United States.
  • Opportunity to lead and develop a consulting team within a collaborative, technology-focused environment.
  • Exposure to Atlassian solutions, enterprise transformation, service management, cloud upgrades, and AI adoption initiatives.
  • Opportunities to shape functional standards, talent development programs, and consulting career progression.
  • Collaboration with experienced technical architects, consulting leaders, and cross-functional teams.
  • Opportunity to contribute to meaningful client transformations across commercial and public sector organizations.
  • Equal employment opportunities and a commitment to a fair and inclusive workplace.
