Job description

Teaching Lab Technician

The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology is looking for a Teaching Lab Tech for our undergraduate teaching labs. This tech will work with a current team of other Techs in a dynamic group supporting numerous students per semester. The position requires successful teamwork and an excitement for an academic environment. Student support is essential.

  • Preparing chemicals, lab equipment, and student drawers for teaching lab.
  • Maintaining laboratory facilities, instrumentation, and stockroom for experiments.
  • Planning laboratory exercises with faculty.
  • Testing and conducting experiments, exercises, instrumentation, and demonstrations.
  • Providing technical assistance to staff and teaching assistants concerning experimental preparations and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety standards of laboratory operations.
  • Managing the working schedule: variable and negotiable with the supervisor; evenings required; overtime periodically.

****The final salary for this position is dependent upon total Education and Experience****

Conditions of Employment
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology or Bio-Chem preferred.
  • Experience working in and providing technical support for an undergraduate teaching lab.
  • Experience preparing chemical solutions and setting up experiments for undergraduate teaching labs.
  • Experience managing undergraduate teaching lab facilities.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
