Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (Mon-Fri)

Reports to: Early Childhood Director

Summary

St. Philip’s School and Community Center is seeking a passionate and energetic Early Childhood Physical Education (PE) Teacher to foster physical development, motor skills, and healthy habits in our youngest learners. The ideal candidate will design and deliver developmentally appropriate PE lessons that encourage movement, teamwork, coordination, and confidence in students aged 3–6 years.

This position plays a key role in promoting physical wellness, positive social interactions, and gross motor development in a nurturing, inclusive learning environment.

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, Early Childhood Education, or a related field (required).
  • Spanish Language Fluency (required).

  • Excellent communication skills in both Spanish and English.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver engaging Spanish lessons that support oral language development, basic vocabulary, and cultural awareness.
  • Use storytelling, music, art, games, and dramatic play to create an immersive language environment.
  • Plan activities that align with early childhood developmental stages and support school-wide themes or units.
  • Foster a positive classroom culture where students feel safe to take language risks and express themselves.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to reinforce vocabulary and integrate Spanish into daily classroom life.
  • Assess student progress informally through observation, performance, and participation.
  • Communicate with families about classroom learning and student progress as needed.
  • Create visual supports and labels to encourage continued language exposure throughout the classroom.
  • Assess student growth and provide feedback to families and school leadership as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to align physical education with classroom themes and developmental goals.
  • Assess student progress towards learning targets, objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and support school objectives.
  • Counsel students to improve performance, health, behavior, and problem-solving skills.
  • Differentiate teaching methods to meet individual student requirements.
  • Manage student behavior to ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Monitor students in various environments for safety and positive learning experiences.
  • Participate in meetings and professional development to enhance teaching effectiveness.
  • Maintain equipment and ensure safe usage, modeling appropriate physical behavior.
  • Prepare written materials such as lesson plans, correspondence, and progress reports.
  • Support classroom teachers in implementing curriculum and student plans.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure school operations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Skills: Apply assessment instruments, operate office equipment and software, maintain accurate records.

Knowledge: Basic math, technical reading, document composition, group discussion facilitation, child development stages, behavioral management.

Abilities: Schedule activities, gather and analyze data, work with diverse individuals, operate equipment, solve problems, and adapt to changing priorities. Maintain confidentiality, exhibit tact, and work flexible hours.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Extensive mobility required indoors and outdoors.
  • Physical activity including bending, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 35 lbs.
