Job summary

The League Education and Treatment Center seeks teacher assistants to reinforce classroom objectives and support student learning in JFTN Preschool and The League School, covering ages birth to 21 across programs.

Responsibilities include supervising and instructing special needs students, assisting with IEP goals, and implementing behavior plans under teacher guidance. Candidates should have a high school diploma and may hold NYS TA Level I certification.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma.
• NYS Teaching Assistant certification Level I preferred.
• Prior experience working with youth, preferably those with special needs; strong communication and organization.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to instructional program with responsibility for supervising and instructing students with special needs.
• Provide direct instruction under teacher guidance to support IEP goal attainment.
• Support and implement instructions for students’ behavior plans.
• Facilitate social-emotional and communication development; implement behavior plans.
• Observe and document students’ progress.
• Assist supervising teachers and provide care needs to students.
• Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and materials under teacher direction.
• Participate in program planning and interdisciplinary team meetings.
• Monitor students during assigned periods in various school environments.
• Perform clerical tasks to assist teachers in preparing materials.
• Perform additional duties to support ongoing development of students, classroom, or school environment.

JFTN Preschool – Birth to Age 5

The League School – Grades 1 – 12 (Ages 5 – 21)

• Provides support to the instructional program assigned with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision and instruction of special needs students.
• Provides direct instruction under teacher's guidance to support IEP goal attainment.
• Supports and implements instructions for students’ behavior plans.
• Facilitate social-emotional and communication development and implement behavior plans.
• Observes and document students’ progress.
• Assists supervising teachers and provide special care needs to students
• Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher.
• Participates in program planning and interdisciplinary team meetings
• Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments (classroom, restroom, hallway, mealtime, busing, field trips, kitchen, playground, etc.)
• Performs clerical tasks for the purpose of assisting the teacher getting instructional materials ready.
• Performs additional duties as assigned to support the ongoing development of the student, classroom, or school environment.

Education:

• Must have high school diploma
• NYS Teaching Assistant certification Level I preferred

Skills and/or Experience Required:

• Prior experience working with youth, preferably special needs population or a similar combination of work and experience; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong attention to detail and highly organized.
