Job summary

Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is seeking a Vision Support Teacher to serve school-age children through the Office of Student Services. This itinerant position travels throughout Montgomery County, PA, working to provide vision-related instructional support in a variety of settings.

The ideal candidate holds PA TVI certification (UEB preferred) and has experience with vision support needs, plus the ability to coordinate with families and school staff.

Qualifications

• PA certification in Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) required; additional certification in Orientation & Mobility (O&M) preferred.
• UEB training preferred (Unified English Braille)
• Experience with students with vision support needs
• Current child abuse, PA Criminal and FBI Fingerprint clearance (dated within one year of hire)
• Valid Driver's License (travel throughout Montgomery County, PA)

Responsibilities

• Conduct Functional Vision Evaluations, Learning Media Assessments, and ECC Assessments to determine eligibility for vision services.
• Develop a plan for delivering high quality, evidence-based instruction and support for children in various environments.
• Knowledge of Braille, Low Vision Aids and adaptive technology skills.
• Ensure the student has all educational materials in the appropriate media.
• Collaborate with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure understanding of visual impairment and needed accommodations.

Job description

A vacancy exists for a Vision Support Teacher to work within the Office of Student Services at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit. This position is an Itinerant position that will provide services to children in School Age programs throughout Montgomery County.

Qualifications

• Experience with students with vision support needs

• Knowledge of Braille, Low Vision Aids and adaptive technology skills.
• Assure that the student has all educational materials in the appropriate media.
• Work closely with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure that they understand the implications of visual impairment and the accommodations necessary to assure students have optimal access to instruction and social interactions.

Location

This position will service school age programs located throughout Montgomery County. The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is located in Norristown, PA and provide services to students in School Age Special Education and Non-Pub classrooms located throughout Montgomery County, PA. Work Schedule

Monday-Friday, 7.5 hours/day, 10 months (194 days/year)

Salary

• Bachelor's: $56,694/year
• Master's: $68,008/year
• Placement on salary schedule based on experience and/or education beyond the Master's Degree.
