Special Education Paraprofessional - Teacher Assistant / Personal Care Assistant / Job Coach
Multiple vacancies exist for Special Education Paraprofessionals to work within the Office of Student Services at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit. These full-time positions provide classroom and/or 1:1 support to K-12 students in various Autistic Support, Emotional Support, Life Skills Support, Multiple Disabilities Support, and Transition classrooms and programs. Positions include Teacher Assistants, Personal Care Assistants, and Job Coaches. Locations are throughout Montgomery County including Norristown, Lansdale, Methacton, and Perkiomen Valley.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required (must obtain the PA Paraeducator Credential of Competency Certificate within one year)
- Associate’s degree or higher or completion of two (2) years of post‑secondary education or 48 credit hours from an accredited college or university; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Background in special education or RBT preferred
- Knowledgeable and experienced in taking student data; experience using direct‑instruction programs and online learning systems
- Able to handle confidential information, work with students with disabilities, establish rapport, and understand students’ needs and feelings
- Visual acuity to read whiteboard, student work, and printed materials
- Auditory acuity to hear spoken word, speak clearly and distinctly
- Ability to work as a member of a team, be courteous and deal effectively with people, work in an environment with frequent interruptions
- Ability to cope with needs and behavior patterns of children, withstand emotional stress, and maintain a warm, friendly, helpful personality
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions; complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision; read, write, and do simple computation
- Ability to complete CPI/Safety Cares training
- Ability to work independently, make work‑related decisions, and exercise good judgment with student interaction
- Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI
Duties & Responsibilities
- Utilize direct‑instruction programs and online learning systems
- Take teacher direction and support student behavior by proactively responding to behavior, implementing behavior plans as directed
- Communicate effectively with students, professionals, parents, supervisors, administrators, and school district personnel
- Interact positively with students, professionals, parents, supervisors, administrators, and school district personnel
- Assist teacher with preparation of daily lesson assignments, including preparation of materials, correction of assignments, and record keeping
- Implement principles of applied behavior analysis and take student data when needed
- Assist teacher with organization of the classroom and preparation of materials and bulletin boards, including lifting and manipulation of books or materials
- Assist teacher with individual and group instruction by implementing activities designed by the teacher
- Assist with additional responsibilities as assigned by the classroom teacher
- Present a positive image of the Intermediate Unit, its programs, and services
- Work as a 1:1 assistant in the classroom as assigned
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor
Location
The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit has classrooms located throughout Montgomery County, PA. Current vacancies exist in the Metha ton, Norristown, Perkiomen Valley, and Lansdale areas.
Work Schedule
Monday-Friday, 7–7.5 hours/day, 10 months (194 days/year). The 2025-2026 school year starts August 18th, 2025.
Hourly Rate
Starting at $20.96 - $22.02/hour based on education and experience. An additional $1.00/hour stipend for valid PA Teaching Certification.
