Job summary

The Archdiocese of St. Louis seeks a Substitute Teacher to provide continuity of instruction in the absence of the regular teacher.

You will follow lesson plans, manage the classroom, and support students’ academic, social, and spiritual development in line with Catholic school values. Ideal candidates have prior educational experience, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to adapt across grade levels and subjects while maintaining a safe, respectful learning

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an educational setting preferred.
  • Strong communication, classroom management, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow written lesson plans and school procedures.
  • Ability to adapt to different grade levels, subjects, and classroom environments.
  • Practicing Catholic preferred but not required.
  • Must complete required background checks and Safe Environment training.
  • Commitment to Catholic education mission and values.

Responsibilities

  • Implement lesson plans and activities provided by the classroom teacher.
  • Supervise students in classrooms and common areas.
  • Maintain a positive, orderly, safe classroom environment.
  • Encourage appropriate student behavior consistent with school expectations and Catholic values.
  • Take attendance and complete classroom records.
  • Provide instructional assistance and clarification as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with administration and staff regarding classroom needs.
  • Adapt quickly to varying grade levels, subjects, classroom routines, and instructional expectations.
  • Ensure the safety, supervision, and well-being of students at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, staff, and school matters.
  • Follow all diocesan, school, classroom, emergency, and safety procedures and policies.
  • Support the mission and values of Catholic education through professional conduct and positive interactions with students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.

Job Summary

The Substitute Teacher is responsible for maintaining a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment while providing continuity of instruction in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The Substitute Teacher follows lesson plans and school policies, communicates effectively with students and staff, manages classroom behavior, takes attendance, and provides instructional support. The successful candidate is adaptable and able to work effectively across different grade levels, subject areas, and classroom settings while supporting the academic, social, and spiritual development of students and upholding Catholic school values.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional assistance and clarification to students as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with school administration, faculty, and staff regarding classroom needs, student concerns, or other matters.
  • Adapt quickly to varying grade levels, subject areas, classroom routines, and instructional expectations.
  • Ensure the safety, supervision, and well-being of students at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, staff, and school matters.
  • Follow all diocesan, school, classroom, emergency, and safety procedures and policies.
  • Support the mission and values of the Catholic school through professional conduct and positive interactions with students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.
Job Requirements
  • Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred.
  • Strong communication, classroom management, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow written lesson plans, classroom instructions, and school procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a positive and respectful classroom environment.
  • Dependable, flexible, patient, and professional demeanor.
  • Ability to adapt to different grade levels, subjects, students, and classroom environments.

  • Practicing Catholic preferred but not required.
