Job summary

The Archdiocese of St. Louis is seeking a Substitute Teacher to provide a safe, structured learning environment when the regular teacher is absent and to support the Catholic mission of the school.

You will follow lesson plans, manage the classroom, supervise students, take attendance, communicate with staff, and uphold confidentiality and professional boundaries while modeling Catholic values and participating in school activities as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree or teaching experience preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, and classroom-management skills required.
  • Ability to work effectively with students of diverse learning needs and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by the regular teacher.
  • Provide instruction and supervision appropriate to students’ age and grade level.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, orderly, and positive classroom environment.
  • Monitor student behavior and enforce school policies consistently.
  • Take attendance and complete classroom documentation as required.
  • Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, and other activities.
  • Communicate relevant information to the regular teacher and school administration.
  • Model Catholic values and participate in prayer and school activities as appropriate.

Job Summary

The Substitute Teacher provides a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment for students when the regular classroom teacher is absent. The substitute teacher follows the lesson plans and classroom procedures provided by the teacher, maintains appropriate classroom management, and supports the Catholic mission and values of the school.

Job Responsibilities
  • Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by the regular classroom teacher.
  • Provide instruction and supervision appropriate to the students’ age and grade level.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, orderly, and positive classroom environment.
  • Monitor student behavior and enforce classroom and school policies consistently.
  • Take attendance and complete other classroom documentation as required.
  • Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, assemblies, and other assigned activities.
  • Communicate relevant classroom information or concerns to the regular teacher and/or school administration.
  • Protect student confidentiality and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Use appropriate instructional and classroom-management strategies.
  • Support the school's Catholic identity by modeling Christian values, respect, kindness, integrity, and service.
  • Participate in prayer and other school activities as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the principal or school administration.
Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree or teaching experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, and classroom-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students of diverse learning needs and abilities.
  • Ability to follow directions and adapt to different classroom environments.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.
  • Practicing Catholic preferred, depending on school and diocesan requirements.
  • Must successfully complete required background checks, safeguarding training, and other diocesan/school requirements.
