Summary
Both elementary and secondary resource teachers are responsible for designing and delivering effective instruction based on students’ individual learning needs, developing and authoring compliant Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and collaborating seamlessly with general education, families, and the school environment as a whole.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialized instruction and research-based intervention in academics, behavior, social-emotional learning, and executive functioning.
- Implement IEP services and behavior plans. Manage and direct the work of paraprofessionals and/or volunteers supporting IEP implementation.
- Develop and implement IEPs for each student on the caseload, monitor compliance dates, and coordinate all IEP meetings, including initial evaluations, re-evaluations, and annual reviews.
- Complete progress monitoring and coordinate progress reports for all students on the caseload, including report card times and IEP reviews.
- Collect and analyze data using various assessment tools to guide eligibility determinations and IEP development, including behavior planning.
- Collaborate with families, general education staff, paraprofessionals, and service providers.
- This includes areas such as accommodations, instruction, grading, least restrictive environment, data collection, assessment, and meaningful inclusion.
- Consult on the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) school-wide process.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment where all students see themselves represented, understand behavioral expectations, and learn through routines and procedures that maximize learning.
- Respond to student misconduct respectfully using restorative practices and de-escalation techniques.
- Build positive relationships with families, encourage parental involvement, and communicate effectively about student progress.
- Demonstrate a growth mindset through professional learning, goal setting, reflection, and adopting new strategies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Hold a Colorado teaching license or have an application in process with endorsement as a Special Education Generalist or equivalent.
- Complete and submit BVSD online application.
- If applicable, obtain the READ Act Designation as required by SB 19-199 and SB 22-004.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Collaboration and co-teaching experience with classroom teachers and support staff.
- Experience serving English Language Learners (ELL).
- Proficiency with technology and software such as Infinite Campus and Frontline.
