Job summary

Paterson Public Schools seeks a qualified educator with a New Jersey middle school content certificate and a Students with Disabilities certification to teach middle school students with exceptional needs. The candidate should demonstrate knowledge of special education regulations and possess strong integrity and communication skills.

Experience with elementary–high school students and ability to work with staff, parents, and the community is required.

Qualifications

• Must hold a New Jersey Middle School content (English or Math) certificate with a Students with Disabilities certificate or hold a Teacher of the Handicapped certificate.
• Experience teaching and working with children with exceptional needs.
• Understanding of current rules and regulations regarding special education assessment and program requirements.

• Must hold a New Jersey Middle School content (English or Math) certificate with a Students with Disabilities certificate or hold a Teacher of the Handicapped certificate
• Have excellent experience in teaching and working with children with exceptional needs unless entering teaching from an alternative certification program.
• Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the specialized certification area, including an understanding of the current rules and regulations regarding special education assessment and program requirements.
• Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, children with disabilities, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning and children with exceptional needs.
• Experience working with middle school students
• Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and good moral character
• Must be a critical thinker, problem solver, and respect others
• Must be computer literate and able to use interactive computer instructional software
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with staff, students, parents, and the community
