Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications:
- Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI)
- Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
- Current first aid, CPR, and AED certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of the core academic subject assigned
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
- Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the district’s curriculum requirements, showing written evidence of preparation. Prepare lessons accommodating individual student differences.
- Plan and utilize appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment based on students’ learning styles and needs, following TEA, board policies, and regulations.
- Assess student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
- Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for students with IEPs.
- Work with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements.
- Assign work to instructional aides and volunteers, overseeing completion.
Student Growth and Development
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through testing.
- Participate in extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor approved outside activities.
- Serve as a positive role model and support the district’s mission.
Classroom Management and Organization
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for student development.
- Manage student behavior according to the Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
- Assist in selecting instructional materials.
- Maintain and file reports and records.
Communication
- Establish and maintain professional communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community.
Professional Growth and Development
- Participate in staff development to improve skills.
- Comply with regulations and policies for teachers.
- Attend faculty meetings and serve on committees.
Other
- Follow safety and emergency procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Direct the work of assigned instructional aides.
Physical and Environmental Demands:
- Tools: Personal computer, peripherals, instructional equipment
- Posture: Prolonged standing, kneeling, bending, pushing, twisting
- Motion: Frequent walking
- Lifting: Light lifting (<15 lbs), moving textbooks and equipment
- Environment: Indoor work, outdoor possible, noise exposure
