Job summary

Tucson Unified School District (TUSD1.org) is seeking an ELD teacher to plan and deliver language instruction, assess student progress, and ensure compliance with ADE requirements for English Learners. The role emphasizes diversity appreciation and collaboration with peers to advance student achievement.

Position is 1.0 FTE (up to 7.5 hours/day) on a 9.5‑month calendar at Roskruge K8. Certification and AZELLA/SEI endorsements are required or in process.

Qualifications

• Arizona teaching certificate or approved area in Language Arts/ELA
• Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
• Endorsements for SEI/ELD as required by ADE

Job description

Summary

Effectively manage the learning environment to prepare lesson plans, instruct students, evaluate and monitor students’ performance in order to advance student achievement. Understand and appreciate diversity. Work collaboratively with a team to plan instruction. Demonstrate commitment to continuous learning. ELD teacher duties may also include AZELLA testing and other ADE compliance requirements for English Learners and other PHLOTE students.

Minimum Requirements

• Arizona Elementary Certificate with Middle Grades Language Arts OR English Approved Area OR Arizona Middle Grades Certificate with Middle Grades Language Arts OR English Approved Area OR Arizona Secondary Certificate with Middle Grades Language Arts OR English Approved Area OR Arizona Subject Matter Expert Certificate 6-12 with English Approved Area AND Arizona SEI (Structured English Immersion) Endorsement OR Spanish-Bilingual Endorsement OR ESL Endorsement
• Current Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

Requirements Prior To Start Date

• Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR immunization.

Preferred Requirements

• Demonstrated success in engaging African American and Latino students
• Bilingual (Spanish) endorsement

COMMENTS

Effective: 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR

LOCATION: Roskruge K8 - 6th Street & Euclid Areas

FTE : 1.0 - 7.5 hours per day

Work Calendar: 9.5 month

Positions less than 30 hours per week are not eligible for district benefits.

Salary will be prorated if the start date is after the first day of the work calendar for the position.

Internal candidates will transfer at a rate commensurate with their bargaining unit language.

Probationary Contracts will be issued for any contingent Certifications, Positions that are 0.6 FTE or less, and certified employees within their first three years with the District.
