Job summary

Point Quest Group is seeking a dedicated Teacher for the Visually Impaired in Indianapolis to assess and educate K-12 students with visual impairments. You will develop IEP-driven plans, teach braille and orientation/mobility, and collaborate with families and special education teams to maximize student outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
• Indiana Professional Educators License for programs for the visually impaired.
• Proficiency in braille reading and writing, and use of technological devices and optical aids.
• Certification or background in orientation and mobility.
• Knowledge of Braille, large print, and talking software technology.

Responsibilities

• Assess pupils' visual function, communication, motor, social, self-help, academic, and cognitive skills.
• Create and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) with measurable goals and objectives.
• Teach specialized skills, including braille and orientation and mobility.
• Facilitate integration into regular education and explain disabilities.
• Develop and deliver curriculum activities aligned with objectives.
• Provide consultation to regular classroom teachers.
• Maintain positive learning environment and monitor student progress.
• Prepare daily lesson plans using diverse materials and techniques.
• Complete records and ensure compliance with state regulations and timelines.
• Attend required meetings and share materials with colleagues.
• Demonstrate physical stamina and mobility for classroom activities.
• Fulfill other assigned responsibilities.

Indiana Professional Educators License for programs for the visually impaired.Specialized Skills: Proficiency in braille reading and writing, and use of technological devices and optical aids. Certification or background in orientation and mobility. Knowledge of Braille, large print, and talking software technology.Abilities: Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to interact professionally with staff and the public. Effective oral and written communication in English.Desirable Experience: Experience working with children with visual impairments (birth through 21 years) and severe disabilities.
