Job description

RSU 10 is seeking an innovative, collaborative, and student-centred Elementary STEAM Teacher to join the Mountain Valley Community School team. The successful candidate will inspire curiosity and creativity by engaging students in hands‑on learning experiences that integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).

The Elementary STEAM Teacher will foster critical thinking, problem‑solving, collaboration, and design thinking while supporting classroom learning through inquiry‑based instruction and meaningful real‑world applications.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging STEAM instruction for elementary students.
  • Design hands‑on, project‑based learning experiences that integrate multiple content areas.
  • Foster creativity, innovation, collaboration, and problem‑solving through engineering and design challenges.
  • Support the development of students' computational thinking and responsible use of technology.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to connect STEAM experiences to grade‑level curriculum and learning goals.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and engaging STEAM learning environment.
  • Utilise a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of learners.
  • Communicate effectively with families regarding student learning and classroom activities.
  • Participate in professional learning, school committees, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Valid Maine Department of Education Teacher Certification (Elementary Education or appropriate certification; science, technology, engineering, or related endorsements preferred).
  • Knowledge of inquiry‑based, project‑based, and hands‑on instructional practices.
  • Experience integrating technology into elementary instruction.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment where all students are encouraged to explore, create, and innovate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching elementary STEAM, STEM, science, technology, makerspace, robotics, coding, engineering, or project‑based learning.
  • Experience using educational technology, coding platforms, robotics, or makerspace materials.
  • Familiarity with engineering design and inquiry‑based instructional models.
