Job Description

REPORTS TO: School Leader

SUPERVISES: May coordinate and direct the activities of Co-Teachers.

PURPOSE: Provide quality instruction to students in accordance with the Montessori philosophy and the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Effective planning and assessment of the school's current curriculum.
  • Guiding students to a level of understanding of the curriculum effectively and differentiating instruction, materials, or assessments, when appropriate.
  • Effective management of the classroom environment.
  • Quality instruction, which includes making learning goals clear to the students, using appropriate instructional strategies.
  • Using innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including the effective use of technology, to increase student learning and confidence to learn.
  • Promoting high standards and expectations for student achievement.
  • Promoting equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning, including implementing specific strategies for students served by the Special Populations department.
  • Maintaining data and documentation, as appropriate.
  • Participating in school-wide professional development and seek continual feedback and coaching to develop as a teacher.
  • Performance of other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
  • A valid NC Professional Educators' license from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in the appropriate content area/grade level (Elementary K-6).
  • Experience working with children ages 8-12.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • AMS/AMI Montessori Certification
  • Experience working in a Montessori setting (preferred)
