Job summary

Near North Montessori School in Chicago, IL seeks a dedicated classroom assistant to support teachers and students aged 6 and under throughout the day.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience with children 6 and under, preferably in Montessori/educational setting.
• CPR/First Aid/MAT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support the teacher in the classroom and school environment.
• Provide instruction and support to students throughout the day.
• Help maintain attendance and records.
• Supervise lunch, recess and nap periods; assist transitions.
• Assist in daily cleaning routines and prepare materials.
• Observe and communicate student progress or concerns with staff.
• Assist with drop-off and pick-up routines.
• Attend meetings and participate in events, including some evenings.
• Support classroom events and trips; participate in professional development.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Support the teacher as needed and directed in the classroom and school environment
• Provide instruction and support to students' work throughout the day
• Help maintain attendance and other written or electronic records
• Supervise students at lunch, recess and nap periods; support transitions to and from each throughout the day
• Assist in the daily cleaning routines in the classroom and prepare/ maintain materials for student work
• Observe student behaviors and step in when appropriate, communicating student progress or concerns with the teacher and other faculty
• Assist with drop off and pick up at the start and end of each school day
• Attend and participate in meetings both 1-on-1 or within groups for the position, classroom, or level including some evening events
• Support classroom events and trips including outings, class gatherings, performances and more
• Acquire professional training and development in the educational field by attending coaching sessions, training workshops and other related learning activities
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested

Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required
• Experience working with children 6 and under, preferably in a Montessori, educational setting
• CPR/First Aid/MAT
• Ability to commit to equitable education and employment practices, anti-bias, anti-racist work and learning
• Effective communicator, verbal and written, with children and adults
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to a variety of settings and environments
• Basic understanding of a child’s cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development
• Demonstrated ability to provide high level of support and assistance
• Ability to provide Spanish language support and instruction to students
• Physical ability and stamina to support children 6 and under throughout the day

Additional Information

Pay Information: The starting salary for this position is $40,000 annually based on skills and experience
