Job Description

Reports To: School Leader

Supervises: May coordinate and direct the activities of Co‑Teachers.

Purpose: Provide quality instruction to students in accordance with the Montessori philosophy and the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.

Duties and Responsibilities

Effective planning and assessment of the school's current curriculum.

Guiding students to a level of understanding of the curriculum effectively and differentiating instruction, materials, or assessments, when appropriate.

Effective management of the classroom environment.

Quality instruction, which includes making learning goals clear to the students and using appropriate instructional strategies.

Using innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including the effective use of technology, to increase student learning and confidence to learn.

Promoting high standards and expectations for student achievement.

Promoting equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning, including implementing specific strategies for students served by the Special Populations department.

Maintaining data and documentation, as appropriate.

Participating in school‑wide professional development and seeking continual feedback and coaching to develop as a teacher.

Performing other job‑related duties as assigned.

Minimum Training and Experience

A valid NC Professional Educators' license from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in the appropriate content area/grade level (Middle Grades Science, Social Studies, Math or ELA). Experience working with children ages 12–14.

Desired Qualifications and/or Experience

AMS/AMI Montessori Certification

Experience working in a Montessori setting (preferred)
