Job Summary:

The Teacher Assistant supports the Teacher/Para in managing a classroom of 12-22 elementary (K-5th grade) students.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Implement lesson plans including instructional groups as directed by the teacher.
  2. Assist in planning and developing/setting up instructional materials for the classroom.
  3. Assist in administering assessments and monitoring progress.
  4. Document academic progress through observations and data collection in collaboration with the teacher.
  5. Apply and ensure consistent use of behavior management and classroom techniques, including data collection.
  6. Perform paraprofessional duties in the absence of the teacher.
  7. Stay informed about best practices in education by attending professional development, participating in book studies, etc.
  8. Provide caretaking and housekeeping duties as needed, such as changing students and maintaining a clean classroom.
  9. Maintain positive interactions and communication with staff and parents.
  10. Attend required trainings, meetings, and events.
  11. Communicate parent and student concerns to administration.
  12. Ensure compliance with procedures and guidelines from UCP, HIPAA, NAEYC, Department of Education, 4C, Department of Children and Families, and other agencies.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Training:

  • G.E.D. or High School Diploma
  • DCF 45-hour training within 90 days of hire if involved in after care, summer, or camp programs.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification

Minimum Experience:

  • Prefer at least 1 year of experience working with children in an elementary classroom setting.
  • Prefer experience working with students with disabilities.
